Learning a lot from the site! Thanks community
« on: July 28, 2022, 11:54:04 AM »
I'm new here - hence the name.  I have read articles and discussions on the forum for about a year, and in the last 6 months started taking some actions to track our finances, cut excess spending, and learn about investing with the goal to eventually manage our investments when I am more confident (currently with a financial advisor who I am happy with, but know I should be more hands-on).  I know there is a thread about "little things you have done to save money,"  but for whatever reason I can't find it.  I do want to brag about three things -

1.  I transferred our savings from our credit union to an American Express high interest savings account and have been putting any extra money in there as often as I can.  It was so easy to open this account and it is so easy to access it to transfer back if I were to need it.  I have received notices from AMEX 4 times about interest rate hikes since I opened the account in Feb.  Currently the interest rate is right over 1%!.  I have made over $100 just by storing my money in a different place.

2.  I bought $20,000 in I-bonds.  I didn't even know what I-bonds were before I found this site.

3.  I have read over and over about references to The Simple Path to Wealth and was very interested in reading the book.  The old me would have ordered it on Amazon.  The more frugal me reserved it at the library and waited patiently for it for two months.  I picked it up yesterday and have read over half of it already.

I am so glad I stumbled upon this site!

In the meantime go to JLCollins' website and start reading the stock series. https://jlcollinsnh.com/  You won't regret it.  It's very engaging.

Great job on starting to work on your finances.  Once you start, you'll be amazed how your money keeps piling up.
