Welcome to the forum!!! There are lots of late bloomers here. You look like you are doing well with the savings and weight loss. Are you comfortable sharing your story?

Welcome!  I'm new here also.  And it looks like our stories are similar, but I don't have a pension.  Lots of support and great information.

After a side track, I'm back to focusing on weight loss.  280# 2 years ago.  250# today.  Shooting for 225# by Christmas.

Best wishes!

Thanks!  I made some bad financial decisions in my youth (student loans, leased  car, credit card debt and a divorce - no kids, no alimony though).  I dug a huge hole for myself early in life because I didn't understand how finances work.  Eventually, I got tired of most of my income being spent on payments.  You couple that with a few soul killing careers (retail and banking) and it put me in a undesirable place.  I woke up one day when I saw a happy family come in to purchase a couple of kayaks and it dawn on me that I was just existing and not living.   So, I took a leap of faith moved to the east coast and began a career that provided me with a big enough shovel to unearth me from this debt.   When I got out of debt   it immediately changed my perspective on life I felt hopeful.  So then I started build an FFEF and procuring the services of a financial advisor and began investing.  I even decided to drop weight because of my new found hope, I want to have a phyisical vessel that would enable me to navigate this new chapter.  I went from 250lbs to 171...then mom passed a little over a couple of years ago.   So that derailed my physical goals ( I am a stress eater).  I continued to work out like a mad man but if your nutrition is not on point, you will still put on the lbs.   But, I kept my financial focus and now that I am refocusing on my nutrition I am seeing tremendous progress and hope to hit my target weight of 190 by September 2021.

Welcome aboard and know that you are not the only one that has made those mistakes but half the battle is having a goal and working towards it.

Thank you for sharing!!! If you want to track your progress and get a little encouragement, you can start a journal.

Great job so far - congrats and welcome to the forum.

I'll second the suggestion you might start a journal in the journal section of this forum.
You will find other inspiring and motivating journals and supportive exchange. It helps to journal about your experiences, failures and triumphs.
It helps to connect with others and it is fun to look back and see all you went through to ultimately be successful with all your goals.

Great job with the weight loss, and don't feel like a low 6-figure NW is bad. You're at the point where your growth might start exceeding your contributions, which is huge.

I found MMM about 2 1/2 yrs ago. I'm turning 50 in a minute so I guess I was your age. WOW!! Changed my life and quick too!  After a couple of months, I posted a thread about how I had so much money. I just went through the bills, canceling stuff I didn't need, unsubscribed from social media that made me want to buy stuff, and in a couple of months I couldn't figure out where all this money came from and I couldn't remember what I used to spend it on. It was really amazing. Now just a few years later I am in such great shape and heading towards my goals. So happy.
