Just Hit +$100k Mark
« on: May 05, 2018, 11:33:48 AM »
Hello Fellow Mustachians,

I recently hit the $100k mark in my investment accounts.  I am 26 years old and try to max the accounts out.  Breakdown is below (as of today):

Traditional 401k: ~$80k
Roth IRA: ~$19k
Personal Account: ~$5k

Wasn't sure who else to share the news with!

Congratulations!

Now, might I recommend making your way over to this thread... https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/throw-down-the-gauntlet/race-from-100-to-250k/1700/ Seems like the appropriate time for it ;-)

Wow, and you are only 26? Awesome! Wish my head was in the game when I was 26. :/

Congratulations!  I remember having my mind blown when we reached that milestone.  We were older than you, too (though I didn't start work until 27 due to grad school, so perhaps that's not an entirely fair bar to measure against).

Congratulations!  The first $100k is the hardest.  Took me 10 years (age 32) to accomplish it.  By comparison, the next $100k comes much quicker.

Excellent, especially at age 26.

Even if you don't put in another dime, this amount compounding at 8% will make you a millionaire in 30 years. Of course, we know you will be putting in many, many dimes. :D

Thank you everyone for the positive encouragement!

A couple things I didn't mention in my original post:

Student Loans (PAID off!) = ~$32k
Homeowner = $232k (put 20% down) and plan to keep as rental property when we move to a new place

Really just trying to set myself up for my future. Thank you all for giving me the motivation to push for even more milestones.

Hello All,

Today I decided to go back to one of my first posts and check to see my progression since then.  Wow - is all I can say...

Updated numbers below:

Traditional/Roth 401k: ~$194k
Roth IRA: ~$45k
Personal Account: ~$69k

Amazing to see how much it's grown in just about 2.5 years!

It's a snowball rolling downhill from now on.

Note: I'm from CA. Do snowballs even roll downhill?

Congratulations! That's great, especially at such a young age, you are far ahead of the curve but don't let up.

Note: I'm from CA. Do snowballs even roll downhill?

If the snow is wet enough, and the snowball is large enough (yoga ball size) then yes, and they grow as they roll too, like the cartoons. Eventually they get too big and blow apart. If you are careful though, and control the speed of the roll, you can roll some very large snow balls. Great way to build a jump in a hurry, beats shoveling when the snow is wet and heavy.

OP - congratulations on the progress!!

Congrats @BearBoy0222 and assuming you kept that house there is probably quite a nice equity cushion there as well.

Thanks everyone.

@ItsALongStory Yep! I moved and I am currently renting out that property - using the rent payments to pay down the mortgage.  Including both properties equity (Living and Rental) NW is hovering around ~530k currently.

That's awesome! This is a great place to share news like this. Other people can share their new $50,000 trucks on Facebook, but we'll take this news anytime :-).
