Second (passive) salary
« on: October 04, 2017, 04:40:19 PM »
Hit a happy milestone recently, becoming a three income household.  Both my wife and I have been on reasonably high incomes (low $100k for her, low $200k for me) for a while now.  We keep separate finances, but I have viewed my passive income as a third earner.  Our third earner has now become our second earner, with it surpassing my wife's annual income.  Its a nice psychology to be able to say one of our incomes is now redundant.

Speaking of, tomorrow is my last day of work, with an indefinite sabbatical commencing, so the passive income will become my primary income for a while.  Feels great to have the investment income flexibility to be able to take an indefinite break from work!

Is your second income now just income from investments? Or is there something else mixed in there? Either way, congrats!

Just investment income (dividends, REIT distributions, interest).  A mix of Australian individual shares/REITS, index funds (Aus and international) and LICs (Listed investment companies - I think called closed end funds in the US?).
