I planted a seed, and a Leaf sprouted
« on: February 18, 2017, 06:48:15 PM »
I bought a used Prius C recently and my boyfriend, a lifelong gas guzzler driver, has suddenly jumped on board the fuel economy bandwagon after driving the Prius a few times and seeing the MPG climb into the 70's on occasion.  Although I have really tried,  I have never been able to talk him into owning a small economical car in the 20 years we've been together.

His used Nissan Leaf that he bought from a seller on Ebay will be here by next weekend, about 30 days after I brought home my Prius.  I'm stoked because I really wanted a Leaf myself, just didn't want to add range anxiety to my already long list of other anxieties.  Now I'll get to drive the Leaf whenever he needs to borrow the Prius for longer trips for work, etc.

Just goes to show that one very good example can be worth more than twenty years of nagging!

Awesome! I'd be interested in hearing what the range on his LEAF is.

Nice!  I have a 2012 Leaf w/ 60K miles.  Full charge is 16kwh.  The dashboard meter claims it will get you 70 miles, but it VERY much depends on traffic, how you drive, whether you're using the heat/wipers/lights, etc.

I would use a spreadsheet to track your use for the first month or so.  Then you'll get a better idea of what the range really is.  Here's some tips for maximizing range  http://www.plugincars.com/what-it-takes-get-100-miles-range-my-electric-car-107677.html

I always feel a sense of camaraderie when I see another Leaf on the road.  I'm like, "Hey buddy!"

The Leaf arrived last Friday, covered in a thick crust of filth, also very dirty on the inside, upholstery stained, etc.  Spent a good chunk of the weekend detailing it back to nearly brand new condition.  May I just take a second to heartily recommend Totally Awesome all purpose cleaner for upholstery stains.  Got it for a buck at the dollar store, and it removed all the stains effortlessly.

The range, when fully charged reads 70, but drops to 60 very quickly.  From there it drops predictably as you drive along.  60 is about what we expected from a 2012, and will meet our needs just fine, considering we also have a Prius for longer drives.  I must say that I REALLY love driving it.  I generally could care less about cars, but this is an absolute blast to drive.  So smooth and stable, quiet, and fast!  So far, it doesn't seem necessary to have a fast charger installed, as the regular outlet has it juiced up and ready to roll every morning.  So far, very happy with this car for $5800 plus shipping.
