I managed to lose 2,000 pounds (est.) of "stuff"
« on: August 07, 2017, 11:37:26 AM »
I'm taking a work paid relocation transfer.  This is my 3rd move with my employer and I've used the same moving company for all 3 moves.  Today, it took the movers about 1/2 the amount of time to pack my stuff and by estimates based on the number of inventory pages, I've lost 2,000-2,500 pounds of "stuff."  Now I did donate my way to big kitchen table that will be replaced by a smaller one at my new place but that still leaves me with at least 2,000 of less crap.

Great job!

My neighbor just showed up with a box of several hundred matchbox cars (not for me, for the kid) so I'm gonna need to dejunk some other clutter ASAP.

Well done.

I used to work with lots of State Department folks who moved internationally every 2-3 years.  The amount of crap they would move from continent to continent was just astounding.  I know, it gets paid for -- with taxpayer dollars.  Wish someone would offer an incentive for people to pare down....

In the military we're authorized a certain weight allowance based on our rank. If we go over this amount the difference comes out of our pocket; however, the moving company is paid based on the total weight.  We've never come close to our weight allowance which disappointed the moving company this summer when I told them we shed 200 pounds of books before they showed up.  There is an obvious incentive to stay under the authorized weight, but there is no incentive to go even lower.  In fact, if you do your own move and don't involve the moving company at all, the military will pay you 90% of what they would have paid the moving company so having a lot of stuff can be profitable if you're willing to put in the labor.

We downsized twice over the last 6 years and think I am going to have to one more time to get my DW to get rid of more crap. I hate clutter! lol. Great Job!
