My husband and I paid off our house on Friday! I sent the final check in on Monday, and I spent the week obsessively checking my bank account, and on Friday morning, it finally cleared. I AM SO EXCITED.
Husband doesn't want to tell anyone in real life, but I have to tell someone, so here I am. Oddly enough, when I did the books today, it has been exactly two years since I started compiling our net worth on a weekly basis. In that time, we have paid off $45K of mostly mortgage debt and increased our net worth from $35K to $126K. Because we are awesome.
I attribute my success to many factors:
- never going on destination vacations (the husband hates traveling and I kind of do, too)
- lots and lots of freelance editing
- parents who charged me rent to live at home during college and then saved all that money in a bank account and gifted it to me when I bought the house
- an awesome husband who was on the same page with paying off the house super early
- and, most of all, the support of like-minded people here.
