Biked to work today, for the first time in 1.5 years.

It's a 10 mile ride.  I used to do it more often, but then had the second baby (he's 9.5 months old). I took 1.5 years off counting pregnancy.  We dug out the bike again, and it still had the lock on it.  At least I still have the key.
 
Felt like I never stopped!  Well except for apparently my husband mistook my helmet for one of my son's spares and threw it out at some point.  So now I need a new helmet.  The old one was probably circa 1996.

Congrats.  I rode my bike to work for the first time ever this past Friday.  I couldn't tell if my co-workers thought it was crazy or cool.  Either way, I plan on doing it several times/week now that the weather is breaking.  It's very liberating to go without a car.  Be safe out there and happy riding.

Awesome, mm1970! I've been biking twice a week for the last month and am amazed I never tried it before -- it's so fun!

Congratulations, mm1970! May the blessings of better health and increased energy be bestowed upon you for you! Biking to work has been perhaps the most rewarding thing I've done on my road to Mustachianism. May you continue to enjoy the ride!

Woot!  Good work.  If the helmet was from 1996 then you needed a new one anyway, the plastics degrade over time whether they are being used or not (but it happens faster if they are exposed to sunlight).  Manufactures usually say 8 years.  I've pushed that some because I figure they pad their numbers, but it's an important investment, don't scrimp on that kind of safety!  Enjoy the wind in your hair.

Whoot. Good for you.  I got my bike today and will bike to work for the first time ever on Tuesday! I wandered over from Washington Post and read a little and said -- let's give it a try. If I do it regularly during the warmer months (let's get through the warmer months before contemplating the cold ones!) I will save $104 per month in metro communicating costs. $500 bucks by the end of the summer :).
