Yeah we use them all the time. I just made a cover out of polar fleece for mine. We don't have any heating on during the night, apart from the fire as it dies down.

With a good cover they stay warm all night.

What is the best material for the covers? I have been using plastic bottles, didn't know about covers and just wrapped them in terrycloth hand towels. Would polar fleece be the way to go?

Polar fleece is great. Less itchy than wool.
