Hit a round number
« on: June 14, 2024, 09:20:14 PM »
Joining the rest of today's (not-coincidental) stock market is ridiculous posts: Hit a new round $m multiple that's been a goal since childhood -- which is really silly, since child me had no clue what a 4% SWR was or how to pick goals. But even if it's due to an overly frothy AI bubble, I'll take it until number go back down. :-)

(cheating, of course, because I'm throwing in the house, which is probably $1m, and the kids college funds, which will presumably some day evaporate, but dangit, I'm still kinda psyched).

No real (Fat)FIRE plans, as both of us like our jobs, but we could certainly go to one income now and be entirely chill, and go to zero (with some belt-tightening) if needed. Still plan to grow the pile somewhat more for a mix of terribly non-mustachian and non-essential goals (the 1960s bathrooms really do need to be fixed before the drain lines all fail), plus the extra of "well, what if US healthcare gets _even more crazy_ by the time we're in our 70s?". But it's very nice having the security of knowing we could tell our jobs to, um, you know.

Thanks for being a place to share things like this that I'm a little uncomfortable sharing with offline friends. And, while I post very seldom, I'll observe that it's due to this forum that I'm still cutting my own hair post-pandemic... *grins*

This is great!  Keep it up.  Most people never understand that it takes work and discipline to hit these type of goals.

Congrats, but don't forget to set new ambitions from the level of the financial platform you've built. There are plenty of needs in the world, and plenty of things to do and see before your time runs out. Plus our brains atrophy without variation and challenge. You'll have to fill in the specifics of what happens next.
