Hit 400K today!
« on: April 26, 2018, 03:41:34 PM »
Today is a day to celebrate: I hit the 400K (Euro) mark!

Here are my milestones so far on the journey:
April 26, 2018:           400.000 (238 days later)
August 31, 2017:        350.000 (334 days later)
October 1, 2016:        300.000 (335 days later)
November 1, 2015:     250.000 (343 days later)
November 23, 2014:   200.000

The recent speed-up is (unfortunately) not permanent.
It's mostly caused by some recent one-time events.

My target still is to hit around 600K before doing some major down-shifting.
Right now I am not sure that I can keep going four more years at this pace but the current stash gives me great piece of mind.

Congrats!

I can't believe nobody has responded to this =O

Those are some awesome numbers. And I would agree, getting closer to 600k can expect nearly 2k per month using the 4% rule, and that's probably a safe enough amount that you can start relaxing. It's definitely a sizeable FU stash :)

That's pretty awesome!!  Your stash is pretty much on autopilot now.

Felt like it's time for an update.

June 13, 2019:           450.000 (413 days later)
December 6, 2020:     500.000 (542 days later)

As expected, things have slowed down. I took the second half of 2019 off and spend some time travelling (when that was still a thing).
Smelling the roses made me reconsider the schedule a bit. I am looking at working less and achieving my goal a bit later, rather than
going full throttle just to get there as early as possible.

April 26, 2018:           400.000 (238 days later)
August 31, 2017:        350.000 (334 days later)
October 1, 2016:        300.000 (335 days later)
November 1, 2015:     250.000 (343 days later)
November 23, 2014:   200.000

Congratulations, 500k is a huge milestone! Lovely to hear that you were able to take some time off before reaching your number. I've been working hard at incorporating my life goals and dreams into my current life, instead of waiting until post-FI to do so.

Congratulations!!!  Is that all investments or total net worth?

Roughly 75% in the market (mostly stocks, few bonds) with 25% in cash/savings.

Felt like posting an update to this, so here are the new numbers:

January 17, 2022:       650.000 (150 days later)
August 21, 2021:        600.000 (177 days later)
February 26, 2021:     550.000 (83 days later)
December 6, 2020:     500.000 (542 days later)
June 13, 2019:           450.000 (413 days later)
April 26, 2018:           400.000 (238 days later)
August 31, 2017:        350.000 (334 days later)
October 1, 2016:        300.000 (335 days later)
November 1, 2015:     250.000 (343 days later)
November 23, 2014:   200.000

As you can see, there was a boost right in late 2020/2021. After the market dipped due to Covid, I had moved some cash into stocks which rebounded nicely.

Pace has generally picked up and I can feel the compound interest kicking in.

While my portfolio has been "bumpy" ever since late February, my dividend stocks have hold up well, still being in the green.
I am on track to rake in around 20K in dividends this year. Next year could be the first year where I could practically live off dividends.

Being the lucky son of a gun that I am, I found a new six-figure job I actually enjoy, so I may fly past FI soon.
I haven't checked yet what my options are in terms of part-time, etc. but I am still looking at pumping the breaks a bit.

Nice progress!  Yeah those compound gains really start to kick in hard when the market goes up with that size of stach you’ve built

Congratulations on your progress!  I hadn't seen your earlier posts since I wasn't actively reading at that point.

We also did an extra batch of travelling in 2019 which turned out to be fortunate timing.

Today marks the day that I have doubled the stash from 400K to 800K, so here is another update:

February 28, 2024: 800.000 (163 days later)
September 18, 2023: 750.000 (250 days later)
January 11, 2023: 700.000 (359 days later)

The pace has varied quite a lot between each milestone, but in 2023 I almost had enough income from dividends and interest to cover my cost of living. That brings my savings rate close to 100%.

It's really true: the wealthier you are, the harder it is to account correctly. I have probably reached these marks earlier and am most likely half way to 850, but those are good problems to have.

At this current rate, 1M seems reachable in 2025, when I will turn 45.

Felt like posting an update to this, so here are the new numbers:

January 17, 2022:       650.000 (150 days later)
August 21, 2021:        600.000 (177 days later)
February 26, 2021:     550.000 (83 days later)
December 6, 2020:     500.000 (542 days later)
June 13, 2019:           450.000 (413 days later)
April 26, 2018:           400.000 (238 days later)
August 31, 2017:        350.000 (334 days later)
October 1, 2016:        300.000 (335 days later)
November 1, 2015:     250.000 (343 days later)
November 23, 2014:   200.000

So glad I was able to see this thread today.  I have felt stuck in my progress b/c of moves new home and renovation, college expenses for children, job change, etc.   I peaked at approx. $750k, but now am tracking IRA only which is tantalizing close $500k.  This thread shows that the numbers can start to really jump from the $400k mark.  I am just starting to feel more stable again, and to get back on the aggressive savings train.  Thanks for sharing!

Glad you found this useful.

Like with many things in life, financial progress is not always linear. Sometimes things move quick, sometimes one feels stuck, and sometimes things might even regress.

But if you are on the right trajectory, things will work out!

600k is a great goal... personally I feel like 500k is even really solid and maybe a place to chill a bit.

You're well on your way awesome work.

So, as of today I am officially a millionaire!

Here is the final breakdown of the milestones for those who love numbers:

January 30, 2025:    1.000.000 (107 days later)
October 16, 2024:       950.000 (97 days later)
July 12, 2024:             900.000 (101 days later)
April 3, 2024:              850.000 (36 days later)
February 28, 2024:      800.000 (163 days later)
September 18, 2023:   750.000 (250 days later)
January 11, 2023:       700.000 (359 days later)
January 17, 2022:       650.000 (150 days later)
August 21, 2021:        600.000 (177 days later)
February 26, 2021:     550.000 (83 days later)
December 6, 2020:     500.000 (542 days later)
June 13, 2019:           450.000 (413 days later)
April 26, 2018:           400.000 (238 days later)
August 31, 2017:        350.000 (334 days later)
October 1, 2016:        300.000 (335 days later)
November 1, 2015:     250.000 (343 days later)
November 23, 2014:   200.000

It still feels a bit surreal, but I guess I have been on a steady trajectory over the past ~10 years.

You will notice that there were some wild jumps recently. One is when I started adding crypto to my net worth, and the other is from some bonuses that came due. Other than that, it has just been slowly accelerating, as the portfolio's gains are reinvested, accelerating the progress even further.

Thanks to everybody who read this thread over the last almost 6 years!

Cheers, Lordy
