So here in the PS household, we have very few bills. We pay our electricity and for any extra sillies we want, like phone, internet, TV, etc. Being frugal and such, the only thing we splurge on is internet. We have smartphones (received as gifts) but no data plan, and we own a wireless router so we just use the WIFI for our data. Cheaper phone plans but we still get the smartphone perks.
Anyway, for our area, good higher speed internet runs about $50/month. Well, when the promotional $30/month period ran out for our (great) provider about a year ago, I called them to ask if they could keep me on it, because otherwise I'd have to switch carriers to keep a good rate. Like most service providers, the $30/mo is still profitable for them and they prefer to keep me rather than see me go, so they extended it for a year.
Earlier today I called again, because my year was up. After doing the usual customer service phone annoyance drill, I got on the line with a helpful fellow who took me down to $25/mo for the next year.
So just for the asking, I cut my bill in half. And I think I'm going to talk with my friendly neighbor across the hall about splitting the bill and sharing wireless. We could be looking at internet for $12.50 a month.
