High-quality meat at budget $
« on: March 15, 2022, 08:29:55 PM »
We aren't big meat consumers, I don't eat any but my SO does and I make cat food for a spoiled fur-child. The one thing that is tough for me is making sure we buy the most humanely produced meat we can find for the 2 meat-eaters in the house. I know that super humane practices do come with a cost but we still try to be frugal in our purchases if possible. I started using an app my neighbor told me about and you can purchase products nearing their sell-by dates at 50% off. So while we still might be paying a little more than a giant pack of i.e., chicken thighs from a Costco or similar, I can buy a brand that is local to me and has very high humane handling practices. The app often has produce boxes for $5 but I haven't tried that yet, I've heard the produce can be iffy. If anyone tries the app (FlashFood) I've found the purchase goes through so easily that if there are several things you might question the freshness/cut/weight, you can always go to the store and make the purchase right there, after you have looked at it in the cooler. The selection varies day-to-day, and the meat is often the store brand or other well-known mass producers but on the one trip I made, I saved $36 on Bell & Evans chicken to stock the freezer.

I'd never heard of it - very cool! Will try out the app.

Awesome job on the savings.
