He's doing it again
« on: January 13, 2016, 09:02:12 PM »
Just in case anyone's interested, my brother is traveling the world via bike.  I posted something about his previous crazy bike trip, through Europe and Africa, and now he's circumnavigating the globe.  Literally, he is planning to bike around the world, from Lisbon, Portugal to Labrador, Canada.

Here's his website, with his blog: http://theendsoftheearth.org/index.php  (It's ad-free, fwiw.)

Bikes are awesome.  People on bikes are even better.  :)

Cool!  Love it.
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

Thanks for sharing! I love stuff like this. I actually just emailed him and mentioned that if he wants a free place to stay in Bulgaria I'm happy to host. I mentioned I'd found the blog through your posting it here in the hope that I'd seem less like a completely crazy stranger and more like ... well actually I guess I am a completely crazy stranger but hey, free accommodation in exchange for cool travel stories seems like a fair exchange to me if he's passing this way.

Thank you, Kaminoge!  He generally loves staying with locals whenever possible, to get a feel for a place.  I think the only reason he'd turn you down is if you're out of his path.  :)
I think one of my favorite things about his travels is how nice everyone is.  You always hear horror stories about the world being awful and people horrible, but for the most part he's found people to be kind and generous and welcoming, even in "dangerous" and "scary" places.

Wow, what an adventure!  Just checking out the pictures in Portugal and Spain brought back a ton of memories from our trip there years ago.  I'll certainly be following his progress.  Ed

SisterX I'm not exactly a local... in fact about as far from it as you can get! (I'm Australian) but it would still be fun to host him if it works out. He's definitely passing through this way but I'm away at roughly the time he might be coming through so we'll see what happens. I'd love to hear his stories first hand.

My experience of traveling is overwhelmingly of people going out of their way to be kind so I like to pay it forward when I can.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
