Great Weekend for the 'stache!
« on: December 09, 2012, 07:47:49 PM »
First, I got this deal:

When I got to the cashier, I pointed out the price, and he said well, that's what the label says, then that's what it costs you!

Then my wife cut my hair with the new clippers I purchased (on sale of course). Hair looks the same as it ever did, and next time she cuts it I'll be ahead of the game!

Total sweetness!  Good score on the $0.01 meat package!

Wow!  That grocery store won't be independent much longer!  Looking at the weight - it looks like the packer probably tared it after they put on the meat...since you have more than 2 grams of meat in that there package!

This weekend was also good for my 'stache!  I used the ~$110 of tools I bought (on sale also!) to change my own winter wheels.  I now 'own' half my tools...the spring will see me paying off my initial investment when I put the summer tires back on.

It took me about 1.5 hours - having never done it before.  The worst part was using the breaking bar to release the 20 bolts which had clearly been put on by an over-zealous air wrench wielding mechanic!  My hands are still sore!  I expect it will take an hour next time.  I'm happy to pay myself $50 an hour on this fun job!

Next time, put a pipe on the end of the breaker bar to get more torque on those lug nuts, or get your foot on the breaker bar and stand on the handle. It'll come off!

Stand on the handle gently. My kiddo jumped on it, trying to help me out,  broke the bolt off and then I ended up having to take it in and pay to get it fixed

This.  I'd never use a foot or stand on a wrench to loosen a lug nut.  Even putting a pipe on the end of the wrench can be bad as it applies side loading if you don't have a hand on the head of the wrench.  A star wrench will usually do the job fine on lug nuts and allows you to apply full force to a nut without side loading it at all.  If you can't get it off with a full size star wrench then you will probably break the bolt no matter what.

Maybe I've been lucky, but I have stood on my pipe. It was the only way. I'm careful to apply force in the same direction that the wrench is designed to apply it.

Funny, but also slightly perplexing.  I wonder who doesn't know the difference between turkey and lamb...
