Something really awesome happened recently that I wanted to share with you all! I’m quitting my job in a week to pursue 3 months of education and a career as a data scientist. Also, we’re having our third child in July. I currently have health insurance through my work, but we have my wife and kids on private plans (WAY, WAY cheaper, btw).
I emailed my insurance guy and told him that my income would be dropping to $0 between now and November and he said that we were then eligible for free healthcare and the cost of the birth would be covered (boom!). Also, my company is paying out my accrued vacation.
Free birth: 3,500
Free insurance for wife and kids through November: 2,082
Vacation payout: 1,640
Bonus to QUIT my job! 7,222
Whoop!
Now of course in the end it will be cashflow negative as I’ll have no income for a few months, but I’ll make it up with the new career and come on – an extra 7k is pretty dope!
