Goals met this year!
« on: October 12, 2014, 05:42:37 PM »
I did it! Just started reading MMM this spring, and since then I've bought a bike and started ridding my bike to work. I've maxed my 401k and  roth. I have opened my Vanguard account, and paid off my student loan debt. All that with several $$ emergencies that I could pay in full at the time by just eating out of my pantry a few weeks.
Before finding this website, I lived paycheck to paycheck, paid my minimum payment on loan and wasn't even aware that there was a max on 401 k. I thought I was frugal.
Now that my relationship with money has changed, I feel so very happy everyday. I've always been an optimistic person, but now I am aglow in optimism. I am truely a happier person!
Thank you MMM and thank you forum community!

Nice work, you badass!
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

Next year I want to max out my tax advantaged accounts, and then deposit 15,000 in my Vanguard. There are also several hills on my way home from work that I would like to be able to ride up instead of pushing my bike up. I'm not yet in peak physical condition.

Congrats! I did most of the same this year also with the help of having read MMM, ERE, jlcollinsnh, Brave New World, and more.

I ride my bike everyday, pack lunch, paid all my debts, and savings rate at 80%. I was a financial trainwreck happening in slow motion for a while but I managed to get myself on track. Feels great to have some direction and a plan.

Congrats. I've also noticed a directly proportional relationship between closeness to FI and happiness.
