Personally, I maintain a small coffee habit, mostly for the health benefits (good for liver, gout prevention, etc., and the warm beverage helps me eat less early in the day). If I wanted to, I could get by just on the free coffee in my office, but I choose to have a cup or two at home.
I did give up on the expensive beans and Aeropress, though. I suggest that if you ever decide to resume drinking coffee, you should start back with cheaper coffee and brewing methods; now that you have a break in your consumption, you may find that your palate has reset to where you can enjoy "average joe" once again.
