garage sale
« on: August 23, 2014, 02:13:32 PM »
Just made $507 today selling a bunch of stuff that was just taking up room in our house.  I did not expect to make so much, my wife has been pleased to rub it in that she was right.  Only had 2-3 items over $30 (old grill, stroller), so it was mostly baby clothes at $.50-$1 each and some other small items.  I am surprised at what people gravitated to first.  I thought the grill would go fast and it did, but some of the bags and shoes were the next things to be targeted.

Either way is good for an extra student loan payment on my wife's account!

Good for you!  It's amazing what people will buy.  We are currently in the process of going through our house and getting rid of everything that we no longer need or want.  It's amazing how much stuff we have accumulated over the years and how great it feels to get rid of it.

I have moved 3 times in the last 25 months. That really helps you focus in getting rid of unwanted crap - especially when you are paying to move it a long way and its priced by weight - or you are having to carry it yourself!!!

first move was from a house we'd been in for 10 years - with a basement full of stuff.
I had a couple of friends from the VA come in and help me - we then moved a lot of it to vets in the area who could use the stuff we had. Toddler bed, camping gear, just stuff we'd accumulated over the years and couldn't use or fit into our apartment that we were moving to. Goodwill did ok out of use - loads of fairly decent clothes and even boxes of books (sob!).

We then listed it all out and used the value of it as a tax write off the next year...
