Hi,
if you are in New Zealand, the local Automobile Association has a loyalty card which gives you 6 cents per litre discount if you buy more than $40 fuel, for up to 50 litres of fuel. Current fuel price is around $2.10-$2.20. You can redeem or store your card discount at every visit.
Here is how you can game this system for maximum discount:
Always buy $40.00 worth of fuel and store the 6 cents value onto your card until you've reached close to the current fuel price - for example 35 fills to $2.10. Then fueld up 50 litres for free or a couple of cents in the litre.
I'm calculating an additional 8.8-9.7 cents per litre discount on top of the 6 cents. The good thing is you can use this discount on top of any other fuel saving tips, especially reducing driving.
Caveat: you need to be coming past a suitable fuel station regularly, as you are fuelling of 2.5 times more often on a 50 litre tank. You also need to have the time to fuel up that more often and not buy crap while you are there.
Is there any similar scheme anywhere else that anyone would like to share?
