Freezing Milk is Easy

You guys may all know this but it was a revelation to me.  I have now frozen whole and 1% milk.  It works fine with no problems at all. 
Things to remember:
1.  Make sure there is space for it to expand.  If you are freezing it in the container you bought, pour some out so the container doesn't crack.

2.  When you thaw it, you have to thaw it completely if you want it to be the same fat content you started with.  Because the fat thaws first, if you thaw a little and pour you will get half and half.

We drink about three gallons of milk a week in our house . . . not much cause for freezing.

I have thought about doing this. We live an hour (ish) from a Costco and the milk there is significantly cheaper. When I go with my friend, I buy the milk I can use for the next two weeks and have thought about freezing but haven't tried it yet. You have made me decide to just go for it.  I freeze just about everything else we use on a regular basis.

We drink about three gallons a week, and so we buy 12 gallons at a time and freeze them!

I did this for a while too.  Here in Canada you can just toss the bag of milk in the freezer.  If it's a higer fat content milk I found that it might separate, so just shake the bag before you open.  Also, it takes a really long time for the milk to thaw, I wasn't prepared for that!

We freeze milk when we can find it on sale, but forget freezing almond milk. You can also freeze creamers but regular NOT low fat. Oh, and don't forget you can also freeze cheese. :)

Yep, same deal. In both cases, don't forget to pour a little off the top before freezing.

Haven't tried it in a carton.  If anybody else has, chime in.  Oops, I see somebody already has.

Yeah, I freeze Costco milk all.the.time. "Someone" in our household freaks out at the "expired" milk, so I black out the date with a Sharpie marker. Stupid, but it works.
Also re: freezing cheese. You can do it, but it does tend to make it crumbly. Trick is to grate it first, flash freeze in thin layers on cookie sheets and then dump it onto an airtight container. Seems like a lot of work, but isn't really. Of course, if you score a deal on grated cheese, just toss that sucker in the freezer as is.
