Fixed my washer for $30!
« on: September 02, 2015, 11:36:33 AM »
Washer was making weird noises in drain cycle and stopping/providing an error code. Checked code, took it apart and looked, nothing visibly wrong. Looked up what it was doing and found that it was likely the drain motor. Found a Youtube video of my model washer having the same issue, confirmed likely problem. In the video, guy mentioned that I didn't need to go with the "large" part which my motor was labeled as ($70-80 and included other bits that were perfectly fine) - I could detach just the problematic motor and replace that. Looked it up, verified the part would work on my washer, and ordered for next day via Amazon for $30. Installed it the night it came and... working washer!

Felt great because not only did I not get a new washer or even call a repair guy (what many people would have done), but I found a way to fix it for less than I originally thought... and learned a few things about how to repair washing machines in the process (like that there's a "diagnostic mode" that can run you through all the parts of the cycle for about 30 seconds each).

Nice work! Isn't is great to be able to find the info you need on the internet to do repairs?  Makes you feel so badass after a successful fix.  You are badass! :-)

Yep! Not like I'm super-talented, but felt great to fix something for cheap, using my own hands!
