An awkward thing to discuss with friends, but I feel like bragging so I'm telling you guys :p

I had been using the city's public transportation system regularly.  For a 30 day pass it is $86, although they are raising it to $100.  For months I've had an unused one sitting in my purse; I haven't needed to activate it since I got a bike, but I've been keeping it around for when it gets cold.

But no more!  If there's a very snowy day, I'll take the train with a pay-as-you-go fare, but I don't have a ticking, activated 30-day pass burning a hole in my pocket.

I could have sold it, but instead I gave it to charity.  I was at a cookie exchange that also involved gathering goods for a shelter for abused women.  One of the items on the wishlist was transit passes, so my pass went into the pile.  It feels like a great cause.  Now, instead of being used for when I'm feeling pansy and lazy, it will be used to help a woman get around/to work/etc as she deals with the hardship of leaving an abusive partner.  Hopefully it will encourage her, and let her know that there's people in the world who truly care, and that she deserves better than what she was getting at home.

Anyway.  Happy Holidays, here's hoping I now don't die by being hit by a car after slipping on some ice!

Good on you for recognizing there was someone who could use the pass better than you could, and congratulations on sticking with the biking. Maybe not having the pass always available will even encourage you to ride on days you would normally have taken the train!

Now that you've got winter biking power, donating your CTA card must have felt so great. Yay for you! You can take the train on super icy/unplowed days

Kidical mass is this weekend - have you been? We might take the toddlers this weekend. It's the 2nd Saturday of the month starting at the bunny park.
