Fixed my front porch!
« on: September 06, 2013, 04:49:38 PM »
My house-sitters broke two stairs and part of the stringer on my porch stairs while I was gone (admittedly, they were past their prime anyway, the stairs not the house-sitters). I'm terrible with handyperson things, so I was gonna pay somebody to fix or replace it.
Then I had a good look at it, and realized I could support the stringers with pieces of scrap lumber nailed to either side (they're under the treads, so they don't show), then just nail the tread part back on top. They're actually better than before! And somewhere during the process I realized, wait a minute, my house is just a bunch of pieces of wood attached to each other. I can probably fix lots of it, if I think and read.
I know, this doesn't sound like much, but it was a big brain change for me. Ha! Look out, Required Tasks! There's a new sheriff in town!

Great job Gerard!

And thanks for reminding me why I won't be renting out my house when I travel next year!
