Fixed a non-starting car for $7.99

Wife's 97 Subaru has been limping along for years, but finally died the other day and refused to start at all.

Pulled the codes from the OBDII. Two of them were ongoing codes I keep putting off investigating, because its ran...until that day. The third code was P0325 - for the knock sensor.

Apparently if the knock sensor gets corroded enough (and it looked pretty bad) it'll progress from hard starting to a straight up no-start.

Ordered a Chinese import part* for $7.99 - boom, fixed!

*Note: normally I wouldn't go this route, but I wasn't 100% sure this was the cause, and while the cheapo sensors don't last terribly long, if they average a year it would take me 10+ sensors before getting the Subaru approved part would be cheaper (even through non-dealer parts stores).

Lucky you get a code at all for a knock sensor.. On the Dodge Neon you don't get one.. but then, its about the only thing that won't throw a code so its easy to figure out.. Unless its melted the wiring harness of course..:)

Nice job.

For those who don't know many auto parts suppliers will run the codes on your car for free.

Back when I first bought my scan tool, they were surprised I didn't just use theirs for free, but I've had enough instances where I had a non-running car and I needed to pull the codes. Can't exactly get the car to the parts store if it doesn't run!

You mean you don't tow broke down cars with your bike in ultra low?  :P

Tow them maybe, stop them highly unlikely :P
