Finally FIRE’d… Thank you!!

As a long time reader/lurker of this site/forum, I just wanted to say THANK YOU, as the day has finally come…

After 20+ years of working, saving, investing, & paying off debt, FIRE has finally been reached and as of this past Friday I no longer have a job!

Like many others, FIRE was reached mainly by investing in real estate, and by making regular contributions to 401k, IRA, & taxable accounts.  Passive income exceeds expenses mostly due to 3 paid off rental properties and zero debt, and another rental property was recently sold to add to the emergency fund and ultimately provide a comfortable amount of FU money.

I am ecstatic to not have to go in to work tomorrow, and have more time to pursue other interests and hobbies.  Thank you to MMM and to all of you for all of the information, tips, inspiration, and motivation that you have provided over the years!

The first thing I’m gonna do is sleep in!  I’m half kidding, but it’s gonna be great to not have to go through the “get ready for work” routine every morning.

One of the things I’m excited about is having more time for family & friends. Work got in the way way too much and I’m looking forward to being able to say “yes” more often. Walking my daughter to/from school, lunch dates with my wife, watching the game with friends, and whatever else comes my way.

I plan on dedicating more time to fitness - running, hiking, biking, gym time, etc.  I’m really looking forward to being outdoors more.

I also plan to continue coaching and doing real estate stuff. I consider those things hobbies of mine, but need to make sure that they don’t take up too much of my time.

I guess I’m most excited to “suddenly be able to fly freely through the world, free from having to work for a living, able to start living life as (I) choose”!  :)

Sounds like my kind of retirement!

I retired 6 years ago.  Being able to have a relaxed morning is one of the best things ever for me..

Sounds like my kind of retirement!

I retired 6 years ago.  Being able to have a relaxed morning is one of the best things ever for me..

Good stuff, congrats! Ah, morning time…easily the best part of day. Cup of joe, comfy chair, something to read, glorious. Not having to watch the clock in order to interrupt that to slog to the home office? Definitely priceless.

Congratulations!  Man this forum is really coming of age. So glad to see everyone retiring. What Pete did for so many here and then how each of us took it on and made it happen.

I'm really excited to see how this forum evolves and changes from a post fire group that was barely visited to one that is expanded to multiple different sub groups.
