Finished building/moving into my new home this month. Sold my old home, reduced my debt by 180k, eliminated my mortgage, and now live in a smaller, more efficient, simpler, paid off house.

Increased my savings rate to 57% as well.

Congratulations!

Thank You. Congrats on your accomplishment as well. I do feel a sense of added freedom.

I'm looking at an opportunity to downsize from my clown mansion. I could almost pay for the house I'm considering with the equity I have in the clown mansion. In other words, spending almost nothing out of pocket, I could eliminate the next 25 years of 10k/yr mortgage paymemts and still have a nice place to live.

Congrats... I am jealous!

Fantastic. We are almost there. 11 months left on our primary residence. We paid off a rental a couple years back.

Congrats! Care to share the story of your build? Did you build it yourself or did you hire a builder?

Built it myself. Acted as the general and did my own plumbing, trim, windows, while hiring others to help me with electric, framing, dirt work and completely subbing out concrete, drywall, lathing, stucco, hvac, roofing, tile, carpet, etc. Took me about 8 months start to finish. Very happy with my new home.

Congrats!
We did this almost five years ago. I admit I still get twinges of remorse when I see how crazy low mortgage rates continue to be. Who knew?
I am very glad to see that your savin4gs rate is so high. I wince for the folks who chase this goal at the expense of retirement saving. Sounds like you did it right.
