Down to one car
« on: August 11, 2014, 05:32:10 PM »
Our 1997 Mazda Protege hit it's repair ceiling and as been sold. Turned out to be good timing as the metro opened up here a few weeks ago and I have been using it to get to work.

We're hoping to save a few thousand dollars a year by only having one car, 2005 Prius.

The whole idea of dropping down to one car started with reading this forum.

A few years ago one of our cars blew the motor.   We talked about buying another but dragged our feet for at least a year and a half.   We adapted nicely.

We both work and have a kid in daycare so we had to plan ahead and actually talk through our transport day.   Since we lived relatively close to work (2 miles) we could always walk in a pinch.

We are 7 miles from work now and in different directions so I don't think it would be efficient mileage wise.

If we take MMMs advice in a few years when we move to town we will definitely take into account how close we are to where we want to be.   The town is more biker friendly.   At very least we could get by with the Nissan Leaf type of set up mentioned in one of the posts here.

$100 a month total cost for a new car including fuel!
