MMM made me do it.  But really, I wanted a simple introduction into the woodshop.  Gotta start somewhere :D

Found a 3/4 inch plywood board in the scrap pile, so the whole thing was free!

I knit.

I've been working on this blanket for 7 years, off and on.  I also knit a bunch of christmas gifts this year.  My niece is modelling the cowl I made.

And I bake.  Everything from Christmas cookies (this year), to R2D2 cakes (my nephew's birthday last year).

The Ewok was a gag cake for my brother in law's birthday last year, and the Tardis was for my husband's theatre group's Dr. Who opening night party.

And this was the death star cake I made this year for my nephew's birthday.  The colours on the icing did something weird when I froze it after the base layer, and I didn't have nearly enough time to do all the detail I wanted, but it is my first real attempt at a 3D cake.

I have no pic yet as I'm not too far along.  I saw a coffee table I liked at Pottery Barn for almost $900 that consisted of black metal legs and a reclaimed wood top.   I am trying to make something similar, using a used cheap coffee table I bought for $25 as a base.   The table has metal legs which I will repaint black, and then I will get some reclaimed wood and lay it over the cheap top that's currently on the table, and then do a nice finish on it.   I don't really know what I'm doing yet but am excited about it.   I'll post pics when done.

Does it have galvanized pipe for legs? We also made that.  We have a couple other diy tables too.
 Our house kind of looks like Pinterest threw up in it.

Easiest way is to get steel gas pipe from home depot.. if you can borrow a pipe threader you can screw the pipe into 90 degree elbows to make like a picture frame (thats the table top).. The weld pipes onto the side of the elbows to make the legs.

Its a simple welding job and it will be very strong.

The cheap table I'm using as a base had its own metal legs which I preferred to the pipe ones personally, though I had seen that idea too and that would have been my next choice.   Thanks for the tips.

Sure, you could use square section steel tube as well.. would just need to weld all the joints, but still very simple. Woud take an hour or so to cut and weld it up if you have a metal chop saw.

Another pipe project!
Wood - two 1970s free tables with scalloped edges and a heavy varnish. They were cut down and sanded.
Pipe - all from the plumbing section at Canadian Tire and they all came this way. I don't think our Home Depot has a pipe threader but I hear some do - if you want to buy longer pieces and they will thread it for you.

These wall-mounted bedside tables are great because they don't block the heating vent, and they are easy to clean under. The tufted headboard and bed frame was a DIY too (free pegboard, lumber frame, and a queen size memory foam mattress we got for a song - the only real expense was fabric and buttons). The lamps were a gift and they seem to go really well.

My MR2 lost piston #3 1.5 years ago, so I rebuilt the engine in my dining room.
