Lotta addicts in here . . .

There are! I've had really good coffee and really bad coffee - and it's all coffee to me. I can taste a mild difference, but not enough to make me choose one over the other. I drink coffee a couple of times a week (keurig at work so free for me) but don't get much of anything from it other than a drink I like. I will say casually that I "need" coffee after a late night - but I really don't.  I do love the blended drinks (it has sugar after all!) but I rarely get them know because of the calories.

I worked somewhere that was known for its amazing iced coffee beverages.  The secret was pretty ridiculous.  We just had a big pitcher that we poured the end of the coffee pots in periodically that we kept in the fridge.  That's what we used as a base.  So the base was basically the last inch of a coffee pot a couple days ago.  People LOVED it.  Maybe that's how it got that really strong flavor without tasting burned or bitter.

Maybe I missed it in the thread, but anyone roast their own beans? I'll be getting into that eventually, but still need to get my wood fired oven built first.

In  other news, I fortify my morning coffee with cinnamon whey protein and a little coconut oil. Saves me the time of making breakfast while still getting protein and fat in so I don't get insanely hungry before lunch.

I thought that protein tends to clump together and cook when you add it to hot water?

I don't drink coffee, but do Hospitality for a civic group full of rabid coffee drinkers once a month. When we have our meetings, I have one hour to get everything for 125 people ready to roll. I turned to cold press coffee to speed things up. After several false starts, we hit on the solution of using the two unused cooler/dispensers (think small Igloo) that were in our attic. We line them with paint strainer bags (designed to filter 2 gallons of paint, looks like a big hairnet, costs only a couple of bucks), dump in the freshly ground coffee and cold, filtered water and let it sit overnight. I haul the containers to the venue the next day, lift out the bag of grounds and pour the elixir into the coffee urn. I add enough water to the proper taste (volunteers, not me, lol) and turn on the pot. Since all it's doing is heating up the cold brew, it's much faster and everyone raves about the taste. You could easily scale this up or down, depending on your coffee needs.

Ah, good point. I add 4 ice cubes to my shaker bottle and it keeps the protein from getting weird. Once I only added 3 because I forgot to re-fill the tray the night before. Sorrow. Ice cube size may vary, but if it's cool enough to take a good sized swig of without burning your mouth, good quality protein should be fine in it.

I roast my own beans and love it. A wood fired oven sounds sweet, I just have a small machine that does it. I love it!

I just started doing something that has helped me stay out of coffee shops.  In the past, before MMM, I used to buy a coffee every day on my way to work and drink it at a coffee shop.   I still liked to do it once in a while and now once  a week is okay for me.

But I missed the experience (not the coffee).  So what I started doing is getting to work a bit early, using the free coffee machine there and drinking that coffee on the office steps rather than at my desk.  The office is in a fairly suburban area on a quiet street.  So I just sit there drinking my free coffee and this feels similar to being in a coffee shop - peaceful, not at work, a nice view.  Kind of like a little picnic on the office steps.  My building has an awning so it should be fine in colder months too.
