Deck rebuild
« on: August 12, 2013, 08:43:28 AM »
I like to DIY as much as possible and expand my knowledge and skill set whenever I can. The previous owner of our house kept the deck painted, and I was too lazy to repaint the deck since buying the house in 2006 because I knew the wood was getting long in tooth and painting would be a waste of time and money. So, I used it as an opportunity to DIM (Do It Myself). I wanted to expand the deck a bit in size originally, but that would have involved building permits, inspections, etc, decided to not bother with that. Took a little while since it was a one-man effort, but I think it came out pretty decent, and sturdier than before. Now if we could just get rid of all the mosquitoes that plague the southeast, we'd be set.

Nice! And so much better without that weird wood "fault-line" at the table level...

That's where the previous owner increased the size of the deck. Of course, the deck also had zero flashing installed where it attaches to the house, so I had to replace a fair amount of siding, too, above and below the deck.

Agree. Always best to stagger. Now I want to rearrange that furniture. Put the BBQ against the house. Move the table/chairs out and hang the plants off the front side of the railing.

Good job on the build!
