Cut my home insurance in half
« on: June 30, 2014, 06:04:28 PM »
Decided to try the Hartford thru AARP as they had done a great job with our auto insurance.

Doing the bundle thing we got our home coverage for $367 for the year (1400 sq feet plus a large shop)

So yeah the Hartford so far is keen as far as pricing for us "old folks"..:)

Frank, that is awesome!  (And an amazingly low rate.)

I recently looked at mine and it had crept from $600 - $1,400!
When I looked into the details they had raised the value I was covered for every year and I was now covered to almost 200% of the value of my house!  I also had other weird 'riders' and too low of a deductible.

Point:  Check your insurances.  Make sure you understand them, and that the coverages are dictated by you.
I lowered mine back down to $700 (Auto Owners, bundled with auto)

That was good until I saw your $367 . . . . . thank you!

Awesome!

When we insured our home a few years ago I was shocked at the quotes.  They ranged from 2,100 to 3,500 per year for $180,000 in coverage with a high deduct.   My agent suggested trying a county mutual company, which we did.  They are doing the same coverage for $890.  (we are class 9 or 10 fire rating, which is the worst due to distance from firehouse)

Hickory County Mutual is our company in Missouri, but many rural counties have mutual companies which are owned by the policy holders.

Just thought I would share in case someone is looking to reduce.

Thanks for your post!
