Convincing the boyfriend to grow a stache
« on: May 09, 2014, 06:30:39 AM »
The boyfriend and I discussed washing and ironing his work shirts at home instead of sending them to the dry cleaner every time. He was totally on board. Later on, I suggested that he take the amount of money he had been spending on the dry cleaning and instead contribute it to his 401(k). He thought that was a great idea, so we set up his 401(k) last night! As we were setting it up, we continued discussing his retirement goals and as he realized how far behind he was, he decided he would contribute 3% instead of just 1%. The 401(k) website also had a feature where you can have it automatically increase your contribution by a certain percentage on a certain date of every year. He agreed to increase it by an additional 1% after we come back from a vacation we've been planning, and I set it up to do so automatically. Major win. :{

Great job! Taking that first step is important, and committing to future steps is HUGE!

and I love your mustache smiley :)

Me too! At first I was confused because I thought it was a frowny face, but then I saw the 'stache!

Cool.. He'll soon be on board with the rest of us complaining that he can ONLY contribute $17,500 to his 401k and earns too much to take a tax deduction to add the additonal $5500 to his traditional IRA...:)

But this is a great first step.

Awesome! I gotta say, it's pretty sweet when you + partner/spouse are on the same page financially--your powers combined are so much greater. Way to go with the conversion! Also, I love the beard smiley!! :<)
