Broke $1MM in liquid assets mark
« on: July 05, 2016, 10:40:00 AM »
So at the end of Q2 2016 wife and I broke the $1MM in liquid assets (stock, bonds, cash) - can't really share with anyone one else but pretty proud of ourselves! House paid off a little over a year ago and now some turbo charged savings for a couple of years and then see what we fancy doing.

Congrats!

We are nearing 1MM in net worth. But still around 700k in investable assets.

Are you nearing FI?

Thanks! - If we sold the house ($400K approx.) and moved to a LCL area I think we could FI now - but I'd rather milk this cash cow a couple of years at least as we'd both like to travel a lot once the two elderly pets move on. I'd like a decent safety cushion as I'm not sure that we really want to move to a LCL as I still would like to live in Wales once I FI - but as I keep saving I'll keep an eye on the Brexit situation. Still like our jobs, they pay well, so will keep at them for another 2 or 3 years I think.

No real firm plans yet - just a basic lets see it all (the world) over about a 2 year period. I'd really like to RV around North America for a few months (wife not so keen on RVing!), mainland Europe, Australia and New Zealand (again I'd like to do this in a RV but wife's bad experience, all my fault, last time means I'm having a hard time convincing her to do it again for so long), SE Asia and spend a lot of time in the UK - I have a dream of doing some long distance walks too - Coast to Coast and I'd love to walk all the way around my home country Wales - not sure if my middle age body will be up for camping in a tent while I do these but I am sure with some planning I can find suitable accommodation along the way.

So nothing firmed up but have a few years to plan and dream - doing my best to stay fit and healthy to enjoy the travelling to the full when we do it!

I lived in Southeast Asia for a while, I loved my time there! I was in Taiwan for several months and the country is very safe, it could very well suit your coast to coast walk idea :)

Whatever place you choose I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I'm eyeing SEA for post-FIRE plans. Though cost of living is low there, it won't really change my FIRE date. There's a good chance I may come back and I would rather have enough to live here than risk running out.

Congrats!  We're inching ever closer (@$850k currently) and can't wait to cross that threshold (which if history is any indication with prior benchmarks, we will likely do several times!).

You'd have a lot of fun, that's for sure. Yeah you'd like to still be able to come back!

+1 on this.  Congratulations!

Missed making my goal of 1st $1MM by 29yrs old (by 2 years).  And the 2nd came 1 year later.
I'm rebuilding after dot.com bust, then "my Bernie Madoff", then divorce... on-track to FIRE on half-that amount next year.

All the best!  MFB
