Bought a bike when it's ten below
« on: January 07, 2014, 07:34:30 AM »
I recently moved to a small town where I live 2 miles from work, 3 miles from the gym, and 4 miles from the farthest possible shopping (WalMart & Lowes).  I found this blog a couple weeks ago and have been doing the mad catch-up cramming of the old posts.  The one called "I don't own a bike" got me.  We sold our bikes when we were doing our pre-move decluttering because we never rode them.  :-)  It was only a $100 WalMart special, in any case.  But I decided I had no reasonable excuse for not biking a lot more.

So I read up on bike-buying tips, and found exactly one decent candidate (we're in nowhereville), 60 miles away.  It's a Cannondale, and a quick google said they retail for at least $600, so the $110 price sounded good.  Mr. Weedy and I drove the 60 miles over snow-packed freeways in below-zero temps to pick it up last night.  The seller thought we were crazy ("you want to come out tonight?  In the snow???).

I will wait until the roads are clear to actually ride it, but I've at least taken the first step.
