We hunt every year. No private land, so on public here in Colorado. This year I harvested a nice bull elk in archery season, which was 305 lbs deboned, ground, and packaged. Then in rifle season I got a cow. Another 220 lbs in the freezer.
The whole family hunts (mom, dad, brother, me) Licenses are $46 each, and we bought 2 each (the max, couldn't get dear licenses this year, need preference points). Supplies were minimal this year, only thing I bought were socks and a new pair of shoes...
Unfortunatly we are accumulating meat faster than we can eat it. We still have 1 full freezer from last year. Plus a partial, and now a 3rd. With all the traveling my brother and I do... We eat a lot of canned elk and dear.
We have canned hamburger, sausage, stew meat, meatloaf, heart, and whole chunks. My favorite is whole chunks, open a can, chop it up, add onions and green peppers, add BBQ sauce... Simmer and it is great on sandwiches. A lot like pulled beef BBQ... Mmmmm
