Ok, truth is im not riding to Mexico.  But the video was created by my cousin's husband.  He and his friends did ride their bikes and made a little movie about the trip.

That was cool. I've been going to the Baja for 25years now, and the spirit of the place is in my blood. Many of the images in that film are very familiar to me.

But not in a million years would I bike the length of the peninsula - horrible roads, worse drivers... but kudos to them for surviving it. I do get the impression that they really didn't know what they were getting into - and I suppose that was part of the charm of the film.

Haven't watched the film yet, but if you read "Drive Nacho Drive" (the book, not sure if it's on their blog archives) they constantly cross paths with a German couple biking the Pan-American highway, where Mexico is probably the safest country....

Is that German Couple blogging as Velosophics or something similar?  If so, I met them in Central America.  I've also met other bikers in Mexico.

There are hazards, but Mexico is not a war zone like the media would have you believe.  There are hot spots but you can travel if prepared, without fear, south of the border.

I get in arguments with people about this all the time. I say how much I like Mexico and Mexican people and most people tell me how dangerous it is. None of them ever been there.

Although I am not sure I would ride a bike a lot of places there. Drivers are crazy.

A very mustachian guy I know did a couple months ride thru Mexico and Central America and had zero problems. His blog read like a dream trip! Don't want to post his blog here for privacy reasons but you can check out all sorts of people who travel around the world and thru third world countries by bike at http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/?doctype=journal. Also this website http://www.skalatitude.com/p/wow-women-on-wheels.html is about women travelling solo to many places, including Mexico, by bike.
