Title: Beginning Badassity
Post by: Montecarlo on January 27, 2019, 03:32:29 PM
I apologize, I know I suck right now because I am typing on a $500 tablet I didn't need and indulging in a glass of wine I don't need while sitting on a couch... well a couch that has lasted me 6 years and 4 moves, so that part isn't too bad.

But in between sucking this weekend, I've also been training for my future, badass, early retired self.  In fact, this might be the most badass weekend of my life.  But I didn't order any food, so baby steps.

Friday night was a lot of suck, drinking wine and watching a movie from my unnecessary Blu-ray collection.  Saturday I turned things around.  I BIKED to Lowes and bought some electrical outlets and face plates.  The lady at the cashier couldn't believe I biked in 28F weather.  Much better than biking in 28C weather, my personal opinion!

I then biked to the grocery store, loaded up my back pack with yummy, cheap ingrediants, and returned home, where I proceeded to actually use my kitchen (the appliances work, that's a revelation!), and after eating, I starting working on some of the electrical issues.  By late afternoon, it was time to take the new rescue to the vet for a booster shot.

So I loaded her up in the Jeep BIKED to the vet, got her the shot, and biked back.

From there I sucked, more time on the couch.  I watched the NHL All-Star game on cable the free HD antenna that was kindly left to me by the previous owners, allowing me to get an occasional sports fix without having to pay for cable (I also cancelled my Netflix and Amazon Prime subscriptions, because fuck them).

Sunday was pretty good too.  I spent more time on the electrical, undoing some of the code violations the previous owners left me with, and started a diagram of one of the more complicated circuits in the house.  Like 5 rooms, both lighting and outlets, kind of complicated.  I am coming up with a game plan on modernizing the entire electrical system.

From there it was splitting wood in the backyard, enjoying the 18F temps and watching the dogs play in the snow.  Kept the interior at a cozy 67, instead of the normal 72.  I found these things called socks I can put on my feet when my toes get cold.  They're not free, but I already paid for them!  I also have a fire going in the stove, saving some money on my natural gas bill.

Total spent: $101, most at the vet.

The best part?  I really didn't sacrifice anything.  I don't feel I missed out on anything this weekend.  I'll still go out to brunch with the friends if they're going.  The only thing different this weekend, was a better sense of accomplishment at the end.

I know a lot of you are probably smiling ruefully, having been twice as badass for years or decades, but for someone new to this... I gotta say, I like it!

Sometimes it's the little winS that add up the most!  Keep it up!
