"It never occurred to me that saving money could be more powerful than actually making it."
Since reading this blog, I have:
- sold a jeep liberty
- bought a 2001 toyota echo w 80000 miles for 2500$ cash
- reduced my gas expenditure from 320 a month to just over 100$
- I took out my old mountain bike and spent a 100$ to tune it up, get some new tires and fix the brakes and now average 4-5 days a week riding it instead of the Echo from work, to the grocery store and to and from the gym and even costco.... Lol
- increased my saving rate to close to 60%
- started getting haircuts from my wife (work in progress)
- saved 80$ a month from cutting off cable
- read more and visit the library regularly
- bought a home that is 5 min to work by car or bike in 15-20min
- home is central to 80% of what I need and within 1.5km
- it also has a basement suite which is rented for a good portion of my mortgage
- I try to fix my car instead of automatically bringing to the mechanic... Learnt a ton so far.
It's been great so far, my health is better than ever, I spend more time with my wife and definitely enjoy the bike ride home from work. Stress is at an all-time low...
Looking forward to building a garden next spring and perhaps taking a shorter trip with the family where we can enjoy Mother Nature.
It's not about saving a dollar, it's about making things matter.
Thanks,
Jamie
