A step towards badassity
« on: August 10, 2014, 09:06:54 AM »
So this weekend (Friday night, all day Saturday), my Tae Kwon Do school was having its annual summer black belt retreat. I just earned my black belt in June so this was my first retreat. The retreat site was a local tree farm where we would be able to camp overnight. A few people -- myself included -- couldn't stay over so were planning to commute to the site both days. When I was driving home on Friday night, I realized that the site was only 8.5 miles from my house. So on Saturday morning I got up and ran to the site, trained with the other black belts, and then ran home. Saved on gas and got in an excellent workout!

Way to go!

When I was around 19 years old I visited the US to attend a fitness seminar. My hotel was around 8 miles from the place of the conference. I had no driving license at the time and is used to biking and walking to everything here in Europe. Seems like that was not the norm over in North Carolina at the time. There were no sidewalk at all for those 8 miles, primarily walking on the side of a big mainroad and crossing highway bridges. Some local guys from the conference drove past me one of the days and picked me up. Said I was completely nuts for doing something like that in the US. It's good to hear it's more normal now ;-)
