A Million in Assets
« on: December 02, 2017, 12:04:53 PM »
Wow, I never thought I'd see this day.  Assets have hit a million dollars.  Of course, I also have $349k in liabilities (the mortgage), but it still feels pretty damn good.  Here's the screenshot:

Awesome!!  We are pretty close to that. I'm holding out hope we can make the net worth of $1M for my 40th birthday. 3 years to go.

Terrific. I'm sure you'll find it much easier to get to 1mm net worth.

Thanks all!  I'm 45, and was a bad saver most of my life.  Since I found MMM I've been dumping as much money into the market as I could, at the same time our house value went up like crazy.  That's about it.  Simple, just like MMM said it would be.  The actual breakdown is:

$356k - Investments (VTSAX mostly).
$640k - Home value
-$349k - Mortgage

I want to get investments up to a million and then maybe pay off the house completely.  We'll see what happens over the next few years.  So far it's been a great ride.

This is funny:  we just hit a big milestone - our FI number, actually -  and I took a screenshot of the Quicken display and stored it in our pictures for 2017!  It was kind of odd, this was a milestone which meant a great deal to me, since I've been working towards it for years, and it didn't make my spouse happy at all, whereas I was very happy for a full day.  Maybe because the market is so fickle ...

I would look more at net worth considering much of your assets are owned by the bank.

I also hit it a few days ago.  But I got there 11 years (in age) after you did, tyort, so I'm super impressed that you got there at such a young age.  Great job!!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
