A little gratitude for life...
« on: August 02, 2018, 08:04:26 AM »
Not too sure which section to put this but I thought I would start a list that will remind us how grateful we should be to live the life we have.
After all, we never have lived longer and healthier than today and we can easily get distracted by reading the news, etc...

Eventually, my intend would be to get all info in one place and write a blog post on it.

Ok, I can start with:
- We can call anywhere in the world for free via Whasapp, Skype, etc... with the internet
- Chose and compare in matter of seconds the best mobile phone plan, insurance, mortgage rate, internet provider, car, house, holidays, credit card... again with the internet - which should get a section on its own -
- We can read for free in our local library
- We watch movies for free at home - OK, not recommended if streamed..
- We can travel for free with credit card points
- Sleep anywhere for free with website like Couchsurfing
- Its never been easier to study, live, work in a different countries, especially if/when young
- Access to education has never been easier, and again, worldwise gives even more choices
- Access to medical treatment and medical advancement makes us live longer
- Access to information on the internet to almost every topic you could think of...

- What can you add?

Nice topic!

I am thankful that even though there is also alot of junk food for sale, that we have access to a wide variety or reasonably priced, healthy, whole food.
Thankful for the pay and benefits of my job, which allow me to speed my way faster to FIRE and to afford health and dental care.
Even though I drive to work, whereas many can walk or bike, I am thankful gas stations are in plenty, and price of gas still reasonable.
I am thankful for this forum.

There's tons more, but I will let it at that for now.  Thanks for starting this thread (Oops! That was one more thing - hah!)

We should be grateful for sure but when I see a (almost) uniquely US perspective of being grateful to be able to afford what should be a basic human right in the industrialised world.. i.e dental and health care I have a hard time with that. Oh and in some parts of the USA  longevity is declining rapidly.

OK now I've derailed the thread, what am I grateful for.

1) Good health. As Mum say.. If you don't have your health you don't have anything!
2) Enough money to never have to work another day in our lives.. I still have to pinch myself at that thought... Yes we can even afford Healthcare.

Every time I take a shower, I'm grateful and amazed that I can turn on a tap in my bathroom and receive a cascade of hot clean water. Just like that!

And every time I flush the toilet, I'm grateful and amazed that a press of a button will whisk the waste away from my house for someone else to deal with, for the cost of just a few pennies. Amazing!

I am very grateful for my disposable contact lenses which I can wear day and night for a month before replacing. It is so liberating to wake up and see everything! For years I bumbled about in a misty world until I put my "eyes" in.
A small thing that has made a huge difference.

So thankful for a sturdy house and roof over my head when it's storming outside or brutally hot or cold.

Fresh produce available at a reasonable price year round!

fresh clean tap water at multiple locations throughout the house!

Thankful for curbside trash pick up and recycling!

Thankful for the ability to learn about investing and medical information (and just about any other topic) for free on the internet!

Oh so thankful for having enough money to live comfortably for ever without ever having to work again

It's "fun" as when you think of it, gratitude can be correlated to the Maslow's pyramid.
We're grateful to live, to eat, to breathe, to have shelter
Then not be in a country at war
Then, love and friendship

But when you think of it, we're a few (compared to the 5 Billion people populating the world) in a relatively safe environment, with basic needs fulfilled and having trusted relationships
The challenge for us is to fulfill esteem and self actualization

We should be full of gratitude for all of them in the end :-)

Nice thread. Will try to add my gratitude lists here whenever I can - minor and major

I am grateful for some of my old friends who still wanted to be in touch with me even though I almost never contact them. :)
Had a good weather today. Good rain and it’s cool at night.
Thanks to the great room mate I ve got.
Thanks to my family - their support and love.

Today's gratitude list:

1. Had a great conversation with my manager - our 1:1 discussion.
2. Rainy day here. Enjoyed coffee watching the rain.
3. Had some pleasant feeling the whole day - I don't know why. I was more easy on me. More forgiving and that's okay attitude, I think.
4. Ability to cook fast and delicious (Well, at least for me).
5. Second successful day of intermittent fasting (20:4)

I am still mesmerized by smartphones. I can fit a whole computer in my little purse!

I am grateful almost every day for my electric pressure cooker. That thing has revolutionized bean cooking for me, and I grew up eating beans cooked from a dried stock.

We don’t live in a food desert and it’s very easy to eat well. I spent $21 today on a ridiculous amount of fresh vegetables and dried beans at a local produce market.

Thanks to modern technology, I can work from my home and don’t have to commute.

I'm grateful for
- my brain. I'm not a genius, but relatively bright. I can remember, problem solve and draw connections. I can budget, reflect, and improve myself.
- my health. I'm not afflicted by any major defects, I'm pretty fit. My mental health is strong.
-My strong legs. I can run and dance and lift heavy.
-The love of my family.
-The wind and the rain.
-I'm generally safe to walk alone. Many women don't have that luxury.
-music. It makes my heart happy.
-dog love. We don't deserve them.

Goodness, not so much where to start, more where to stop! For me though, two fundamentals:
Good Health and Time to enjoy life.

The perfect, perfect weather today. This is why people love October.

Also, super-cheap annual state park passes.

On the other side of the world, its perfect weather too! Sunshine and the first roses in bloom. Freshly baked sourdough bread for lunch after a morning in the garden. Deeply grateful for health and FIRE.
