-84K to +25K NW in 2.5 years!
« on: March 05, 2018, 11:30:31 AM »
When I began lurking on this forum 2.5 years ago, I was so motivated by all the posters. I recently made an account so I could be more interactive because I love this community. (And I literally check it everyday looking for new topics)

I really got serious about our debt in December 2015. At the time I had $5K in medical bills, a 27K car note and 16K in credit card debt. Add my $36K of student loans to the mix and it was a hair on fire disaster. I don't know where it all came from but one day it was just there. Overall net worth was -84K!! I thought it would be a lifetime before I came close to the numbers you guys were throwing around.

2.5 years later, after some ups and downs, my DH and I are at a POSITIVE NW of 25K!! I still have student loan debt and a much smaller car loan but to have actual money is incredible. I have 50K in EF and retirement accounts. :D

I use to be so envious of you mustachians with your positive net worths, emergency funds and fancy 401Ks. I hope my little story will give someone else hope. I still come to the Share Your Badassity section for inspiration because I do have off months.

P.S. We recently became DINKs too! First paycheck from DH comes this Friday. I cannot wait (!!)

Congratulations! It’s a hard fight to zero (I recently crossed the threshold too!) but boy, is it sweet when you get there. Congrats to hubby on the job, too! Cheers all around.

Congrats FireyFire!  That's a long journey in a relatively short time -  you both must have been super-focused over those 30 months - color me impressed!!

Congratulations!
I was lucky in that when we married neither one of us had any debt, but no assets either.
At three months, we had $1,500 and $6,000 by the end of 1 year. This has been many years ago
and our Gross yearly income was $18,000.
It works, just keep saving and investing, we are now FI.
 You will get there too!

Thank you Lan Mandragoran. I love reading about how it just keeps getting faster. It was only one year about that we paid off all our credit card debt but smart decisions, side hustles and general mustachianism got us to where we are.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
