8 month weight-loss summary.The 6th hole in the belt...
« on: August 21, 2013, 05:06:23 PM »
At the beginning of the year I tipped the scales at 117 kg or 257,9 pounds, and i was sick of it. The turning point was when i saw a BBC documentary called "eat, fast, and live longer". I did some online research on intermittent fasting, calorie counting, and i read a lot of the articles on Mark's Daily Apple(thanks to MMM for that). I have been using a combination of intermittent fasting, calorie counting, and the principles of The Primal Blueprint for almost 8 months and my weight is now 93 kg or 205,03 pounds. The biggest challenge was kicking my stupid snacking habits, and that is where calorie counting really helped. Once I added up the calories in the calories contained in the junkfood i realised i was often ingesting an extra 1 or 2 days worth of calories. The fasting was quite a surprise. I started with a 12 hour fast, and made it without killing anyone. Then i went on to 16,20,24,36,and then to a 48 hour fast. Not once did i experience the sugar crash. I had one fasting period in each week. I have not had any fasting periods for the last 2 months. I keep my carb intake below 150  grams, most days i stay below 100 grams.I do not count calories to the last decimal,at this point i just do a quick approcimate calculation when i prepare my meals. It's like a seatbelt, it keeps me from smashing through the windshield. In the beginning, the hardest part was not feeling full, even though i knew i had eaten enough food. Now, it gets uncomfortable very quickly if i even approach the stage of overeating. My diet can be summarized as "a truckloads of vegetables and piles of meat".
The best part was when my sister asked me "how the hell can you eat like THAT and still lose weight?".
I still wear my old belt, it reminds me to stay on track.

Congratulations, very good work, I'm impressed. I'd love to be able to do short fasts. Do you have some good links on intermittent fasting?

Thanks for sharing your progress.

thank you. If I can get from Breakfast to Lunch that's already not too bad. Just kidding. I will give it a try.

Congrats.  I lost 50 pounds last year by switching to a more primal way of eating (laid out in the book Diet Evolution).  Eat a lot of food and lose weight?  OK, where do I sign up?  The weight just melted off.

I have since added some carbs back in like rice and bread for a sandwich for lunch.  Still not eating bread and pizza is a rare treat.  Have maintained my weight.

I would like to lose the last 20 - 25 pounds now.  Going to start adding in strength training.

Congrats! I have lost 25 lbs by ditching wheat and processed sugar from my diet. I eat a dozen organic eggs a week, drink a half gallon of raw milk a week, eats plenty of chicken, beef and pork and "truckloads" of fruit and veggies. The weight is still coming off from this diet alone!

For me, the biggest change was giving up wheat and sugar. The hunger cravings were gone after that. If I go on a little wheat binge they come back real quick! I have some good gluten free bread that I use for sandwiches and toast..so I don't go without.

Nice job on losing the weight. Keep up the great work.

Hey that is great!

We did a pretty strict low carb, low calorie, high protein diet.  It worked for fast weight loss, but was not the most exciting.  It did make us aware of calories and we are more careful now.

Encouraging to hear your story :)

Congrats on your weight loss so far!  I try to fast at least 6-8 hours every day.  And then I wake up.

In all seriousness, glad you found a system that works well for you.

I've dropped about 20 pounds since February and have 15 left to go.  For me the trick was to pack my lunch for work every day (to control the calorie count), and to bike home (9 miles) every chance I can to get the cardio in.  Aside from that, nothing too out of the ordinary.  Just the boring ol' burn off more than you take in.  MMM has been great for the waistline, I don't eat out for lunch 5 days a week and a few times for dinner and that has made a big difference in both the wallet and my overall health.  Total win-win.  That really helped get me on board with cycling in the first place, I needed to make life changes.
