[US] Laptop Trade In For $75 Minimum

[US] Best Buy currently has a deal until 7/14/17 where if your laptop powers on (Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, OSX, netbooks...etc), you can trade it in for a $75 minimum gift card up to 3 per trip ($225). One of my laptops was valued at $15, but the promotion made it $75! Over a period of a few days, I have been digging through my closet and just ordered a new range/hood using only gift cards. We also bought a few misc items with the gift cards.

Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else on MMM (found it on Reddit). It is quite a good deal and I am excited. I don't work for Best Buy, and if I did I probably wouldn't advertise this since they don't make money doing this. I have a few more laptops so we will see what else we can afford.

I googled it, found a reference that Windows 3.1 was the minimum OS required. Can't confirm it's accurate though.

Last time I did this, I traded in a Netbook (remember those tiny handheld laptops) for a cheap Chromebook that I use for travel now.

No worries! I traded in a Pentium M and got the full amount (13+- year old laptop). Your i5 will probably get more than $75.

It seems to vary on the store for how friendly they are. Yesterday, I traded in a laptop and, a relative traded in two. Today, I went to the same store with 3 laptops and got the stink eye from a manager when an employee confirmed I was there yesterday. The employee told me they can only accept 3 within 12 months, and hoped I would volunteer to leave. I didn't and asked about the two, which they accepted. While leaving Best Buy, the manager gave me a stink eye again. From what I've read, the policy actually is that you can only bring 1 per visit per day. Some stores are willing to accept more than that at a time. So, I think this manager was just on a power trip.
Really what it comes down to, this is still a good deal and maybe they just got a trade in rush the past couple days and were miffed. I'm not sure. What is hilarious is that this happened in a nicer part of town where people drive nice cars, whereas the other stores were much more friendly, but lower class.

No problem getting my trade in yesterday. Got a $75 Best Buy gift card and a printed $75 coupon for some expensive Samsung laptop.

In California it appears that the promotion has ended early (instead of Friday). I sure would have liked to have been in the corporate meeting when the decision was made. We still traded in 2 laptops for $65 (non-promotion), and then tried at a different store and was told the same laptop was $0. This was before they looked us up, and we hadn't been to the store before. So, it wasn't a blacklisting issue.

It was all good though. We bought a few more things we needed. Best of luck in your states/areas though! We may give it one more try tomorrow just to see but I think coolistdude's Best Buy run has come to an end.
