(Almost) three pounds of breakfast for three dollars!
« on: October 16, 2012, 03:33:24 PM »
I went to the food co-op yesterday. I love the co-op; it's like a very low-rent Whole Foods. Also they have a ton of delicious things in bulk, like organic steel-cut oats, which are normally $1.49/lb, but were on sale yesterday for $1.09/lb. And I brought my own glass jar to store them in, which they will let you fill with bulk items if you have a nice cashier weight the jar first so they know where to tare the scale.

End result: I got almost three pounds of delicious breakfast for $3.11. Also some parsnips, which were a featured special.

I need to go to the co-op more often for deals like this. Do any of you have a food co-op in your area? If so, what kinds of things do you like to get there?

Oats are ~$2.20 (?) in our local Aldi for 42 Oz and I am not sure that "organic" label mean much for Oats.

But there is nothing wrong with supporting the local farmers.

We checked out our co-op here in Columbus and the prices were absolutely godawful. Sigh.

Edited to add: we do have a Church of the LDS cannery here in town that's open to the public. There's none of the ecological warm fuzzies there, but the prices are incredible, so it's the same sort of thing.
