Title: Renting vs. buying - Looking for a spreadsheet that includes every aspect
Post by: max9505672 on January 04, 2019, 02:51:02 PM
Hi Mustachians,

I'm currently renting an apartment when roommates but considering buying and would like to have real numbers before making a choice.

I am looking for a spreadsheet that takes into account all the aspects of renting vs buying. Renting is simple, only expenses. But, as everyone knows, once you buy a property, there's part capital, part interest and therefore opportunity costs on the money invested on the housing market and not invested in the financial market. There's opportunity cost on the down payment too. I guess I could make a table on my own, but probably something already exists...?

Basically, I want to know how long it's going to take before buying becomes more advantageous than renting.

Thanks
