Beginner Investor - RE vs stock index for short term...
« on: September 20, 2017, 05:57:51 PM »
Hello,

I am in the midst of paying off some debt and would like to invest.

In the following scenario, what would you recommend?

- ability to save 300k per year
- saving until around 1,000,000 and investing in real estate
- pure index fund investing --> invest in real estate

It seems there are huge tax advantages / shelters in real estate that simply aren't offered in index funds and will more income and the ability to invest > 1 million, you would find more / larger gains / wins and tax breaks with real estate.

Thoughts?  Or good threads?

For the short term? CDs or Money Market account.

I think real estate and the stock market are both good for the long term.

If you're able to invest $300k/year, why do you need to invest in the short term?  You can invest half in the stock market and then half in real estate every year.  As long as you invest in the long term, you'll be really wealthy.
