Affordable housing opportunity in Seattle
« on: January 31, 2019, 08:07:09 PM »
Mercy Housing is about to open up the application process for the refurbished housing in the old Magnuson Park barracks ("Building 9") -- these are affordable housing units that have annual income caps ranging from just under 45k for a single person up to around 69k for a five-person household.  Rents range from just under 1.1k for a studio up to just under 1.4k for a two bedroom (there will supposedly be some 3 bedrooms in the second phase, but that isn't open for applications yet).

More info available here:

https://www.mercyhousing.org/magnuson-place

They are going to have childcare and a medical clinic on site.  Also right near the Burke Gilman, on a couple of good buslines, and near the HQ of both The Mountaineers and Cascade Bicycle Club.  Grocery shopping will kind of suck if you don't have a car -- there's a Met Market in Hawthorne Hills, but it's expensive.  There's Safeway/QFC in Uvillage area if you have a bike and trailer I guess.  Or a bus trip up to PCC on 65th (pretty steep hill both ways for a bike/trailer -- you'd burn your brakes out coming back fully loaded....)

Would be great if those with lower income friends/family in Seattle can help spread the word about this opportunity.  We can have MMM meetups at the park when the weather improves!

Yikes! A studio for 1.1k is considered affordable?

Oh Seattle of my youth, where have you gone?

Drowned in venture capital...

The studios are not a particularly great deal, but the 2-brs are a steal.
