Two years now on Ting. I'm weird, and that's OK.
« on: June 16, 2018, 05:33:56 PM »
I know there are numerous other threads about Ting and Republic Wireless.  I realized today I've been on Ting for almost two years.  I thought it was one year, but logged in to my account and saw it was two.  Time really does fly by and it's scary.

It's one of the best financial decisions I've ever made.  But I share because it's also been an awesome life decision.  When you switch to a phone plan where you pay for data bit by bit, you truly see how addicted most people are to phones.  I keep my phone turned off a lot.  I use it primarily for FB messenger, and really only that to text my wife that I picked up our son from school.  Beyond that, I have my work email on my phone in the rare case there is an urgent response needed.  I also use Waze or google maps occasionally if I don't know where I'm going.  And that's pretty much it.  I use my tablet at home for anything else.

But again, when you're the weirdo or oddball with your phone in your pocket, you see how glued everyone is to their phones.  Sometimes I feel like I live in a Twilight Zone episode.  What's ally sad is sometimes I'll go to a networking event and everyone is just standing around and looking at their screens.  Sure, I've saved money.  My Ting bill is between $15 and $23 per month.  Mostly, though, I think I've saved myself from being one of the phone zombies.

I think we are right around two years as well.  Our bill is either $34 or $44 depending on usage.  We didn't have the best luck on the Sprint network, but we have been happy since switching both phones to the GSM (T-Mobile) network.  So to anyone looking to go with Ting, just check those two coverage maps before you buy a phone.

Is messenger the only app you have that allows data usage? What other apps do you use? Check out the app Offline Maps and if you use reddit check out Reddit Offline.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
